Metropolitan Markos of Chios, Psara and Oinousses visited the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, June 18 and met with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America in his office. Invited by the Chian organizations of New York, Metropolitan Markos was visiting the United States on the occasion of the 100-Year Anniversary since the liberation of Chios and a series of centennial celebrations with the name “Kanareia.” On Sunday, June 17, Metropolitan Markos presided at the Divine liturgy at St. Demetrios Cathedral in Astoria, NY with many faithful with roots from Chios in attendance. In his visit to the Archdiocese, the Metropolitan was accompanied by the Chancellor of his Metropolis Gr. Georgios Liadis, his deacon Fr. Kirikos and the officials from Chian organizations Markos Marinakis and Amalia Bournias.
