Holy Week and Pascha 2013:SS Kosmas & Damianos Greek Orthodox Church Rochester, MN
ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ ΑΝΕΣΤΗ! CHRIST IS RISEN!
"Blizzards, Bishops, and Pascha, Oh, My!" Welcome to Holy Week at SS Kosmas & Damianos Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester, Minnesota! While many of our fellow brethren were basking in beautiful Springtime temperatures for Holy Week and Pascha, we here in the frozen tundra endured a Holy Thursday blizzard which brought with it 13 inches of snow! Undeterred, our parish priest and dedicated chanters continued all the liturgical celebrations without delay or cancellation thanks be to God! How many of you have stomped through a foot of snow on Holy Friday during the procession with the Kouvouklion?! The entire congregation donned their winter coats, gloves, and boots and made the traditional procession singing the beautiful Trisagion hymn; the hearts and souls of all radiated spiritual warmth. Holy Saturday morning a historical moment in the life of our parish occurred: we were blessed to have His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos (Chancellor of the Metropolis of Chicago) celebrate the Hierarchal Vesperal Liturgy of St. Basil....a magnificent transition to the Anastasis and the celebration of the Risen Lord!
