“Friends of the Poor”
Philoptochos is the primary philanthropy group of our parish. Historically a women’s group, it is also open to our men, and raises money and provides hands-on services for local and national charitable work. The Philoptochos is a very active and provides ministries to individuals and groups such as women’s shelters and homes for the poor, service to families of a local school, emergency relief and assistance, and many more.

Philoptochos also provides financial support to national church programs such as Saint Michael’s Home for the Aged and Saint Basil Academy. Philoptochos has four active committees:
Outreach – provides service to those outside the parish community. For example our parish has “adopted” the local elementary school Fairfax Elementary School where we provide assistance to children and their families in need. Philoptochos has also organized missions to help in Mexico, the Indian Nations, Canada and elsewhere.
Inreach – provides service to parishioners such as the elderly, ill, and shut-ins.
Bereavement – provides service to parishioners during and after the death of a loved one.
Fundraising – raises funds to support the operations of Philoptochos through various activities such as bake sales, auctions, and fashion shows.
